Welcome to Coast Mind.
My name is Brady (he/him) and I am a Registered Social Worker with the AASW. Please see below for more background details on my academic and occupational history - but also get to know a little more about me as a person!
What I Bring, As A Professional:
- I have studied Psychology at an Undergraduate and Honours level, as well as a qualifying Social Work Masters, in addition to many years of ongoing professional development.
- Over 15+ years’ experience in (but not limited to): disability (pre/post-NDIS transition), clinical youth/adult mental health, family violence/Men’s Behaviour Change, public housing advocacy support, community development, academic/career tutoring, etc.
- Training and development in a range of therapeutic modalities, with a primary interest in/focus on using an eclectic approach. My preferred evidence-based domains are primarily Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Solutions-Focused Therapy (SFT/SFBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as well as elements of generalist and specialist (e.g. neurodivergent/disability-focused) modalities like Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)) and more.
- Private-practice experience in consultation, tutoring, counselling and media.
- A strong commitment to person-centred and strengths-based practice, as well as capacity to overview your unique self from a systems perspective.
- A unique practice perspective - see below!
What I Bring, As A Person:
- I identify as living with psychosocial disability, although I prefer the much-less pathologising term of being neurodivergent (Autism and ADHD, inattentive-type).
- Peer/lived experience of recovery from mental illness. Peer models and approaches inform a lot of my practice philosophy alongside the evidence-based application.
- A very strong humanistic values-base - I am committed to always using anti-oppressive and inclusive practice on the individual level, but am just as keen to help build and strengthen vulnerable communities.
- A disinterest in power imbalances - I’m here as an experienced professional, but my support is guided by and tailored for people, by people.
- Curiosity, warmth, compassion, humility and an innate trust in you, your story, strengths, challenges and journey. I take our journey seriously, but I’m also prone to a bit of humour where it’s called for!
- A love of many things! Surfing, animals, gaming, music, reading, writing, playing guitar and bass, socialising, going to a lot of concerts, amongst many other things.
- Coffee. Man, I love coffee.
Our Sessions:
(Coming Soon - A guide on What To Expect From Counselling. A step by step introduction to counselling and the stages involved in your consumer journey with CoastMind).
- Can be conducted either via virtual platforms or, for prospective clients in the Bellarine/Greater Geelong region, in the community (home/community outreach visits available).
- Within our primary business hours (10am - 7pm Monday to Thursday, please enquire around alternative times and dates).
- Fifty minutes in length for both counselling/coaching services. Additional time may be available in advance, but please note this will also alter fee structure.
- Can involve (with your consent) close ones, advocates and other important stakeholders.
I am currently working with participants involved with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and am able to take additional organisational referrals as required.
Medicare rebates are not available at present, however this will be subject to change in the near future under the Better Access Scheme.
For further information on where to obtain Medicare-rebated funding, please refer to our Resources page (TBA, under construction) - which also has links to a number of fantastic local/non-region-specific resources for the wider community.
